Belichick Updates Bolden: Patriots' Rookie 'In Good Spirits'
Eric Canha-USA TODAY Sports

Bill Belichick's DNA is to be tight-lipped, close to the vest and give away nothing more in the way of information that is more than minimal lip service. But the New England Patriots' future Hall-of-Fame coach was more than happy to address a topic Monday morning on his weekly radio show:

The improving health of rookie Isaiah Bolden.

“I talked to Isaiah yesterday. He’s in good spirits,” Belichick said during an appearance on Audacy's WEEI 93.7's The Greg Hill Show. “Recovering, obviously, but we’ll just take it day by day. Certainly seems a lot better today than it looked like Saturday night, so that’s a good thing. It was good for him to fly back with the team, everybody seeing him. He’s got a lot of support here.”

Bolden, a 23-year-old cornerback drafted in the seventh round from Jackson State, was knocked unconscious in the fourth quarter of Saturday night's preseason game in Green Bay when he collided with teammate Calvin Munson. He was transported to the hospital and spent the night before being released Sunday morning and traveling with the team back to Foxboro.

In the wake of the scary event that conjured eerie similarities to the Damar Hamlin episode from last January, the Patriots decided to cancel the remainder of their game with the Packers and also this week's scheduled joint practices with the Tennessee Titans.

“I thought it was really impressive just watching the situation,” Belichick said. “The doctors — Dr. [Scott] Martin and Dr. [Gian] Corrado, who is an emergency doctor, Jim Whalen — those guys were right on top of it. I walked out there to see, and I don’t know anything, but just watching them and the way they handled everything was fantastic.”
